Mikel Arteta issues injury update on Calafiori, Gabriel, Timber, Odegaard and Tierney
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been speaking to the press ahead of Wednesday night’s trip to Preston in the Carabao Cup fourth round.
Arteta issued injury updates on a number of key players, including captain Martin Odegaard and centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, who suffered a knee problem during Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool in the Premier League.
Below is a selection of what he had to say.
On Gabriel Magalhaes: “We are still assessing him. It doesn’t look bad at all. It was much better the next day. He has done some tests.”
On Jurrien Timber: “Jurrien is fine. Obviously he was very tired, he’d been out for a while and he could not continue the [Liverpool] game. But there is nothing, no new injury there at all.”
On Riccardo Calafiori: “He will be out for a few weeks I would say.”
On Martin Odegaard: “He’s been on the grass for a few weeks but there’s still a few boxes to tick. How fast we can do that last stage of the rehab is a question that we would have to answer once we have players around and he starts competing with the team, something that he hasn’t done yet. Hopefully [he will be back before the international break], but we have to see how it goes.”
On Kieran Tierney: “I think he’s quite close, he looks good, really sharp. He hasn’t trained with the team yet, hopefully he can do that in the next week or two.”
