Riccardo Calafiori’s Arsenal medical imminent
Riccardo Calafiori is set to finalise his switch to Arsenal after the Gunners agreed a deal with Bologna for the Italy defender.
Calafiori, 22, will now undergo his medical and, providing all goes to plan, will join up with his new Arsenal team-mates on their pre-season tour of the United States.
The left-footed defender will become Arsenal’s first significant addition of the transfer window and his arrival could lead to the departure of Jakub Kiwior, who is attracting interest from several Serie A clubs.
Speaking earlier in the week, Arteta reiterated his desire to significantly strengthen his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
“Obviously we know there are certain positions that we want to improve and give the squad better resources in terms of numbers where we are short,” said the Arsenal boss. “We will try our best.”
Arsenal are hoping to add a new midfielder in the coming weeks, while they are also looking to bring in another attacking option.
Arteta’s side begin their pre-season tour of the USA with a game against Bournemouth in Los Angeles on Thursday morning (3.30am kick-off UK time).
