Arsenal winger receives first international call-up – but has yet to make a final decision
Charles Sagoe Jr is mulling over his international future after receiving a call-up from Liberia during this latest international break.
The Arsenal winger did not accept the call-up, as he wanted more time to make a decision, with the 21-year-old also able to represent Ghana, as well as England.
Sagoe Jr, who made his senior debut for Arsenal in a 2023 League Cup win at Brentford, qualifies to play for Liberia through his mother and was appreciative of the offer.
He has not ruled it out, but is aware that any decision he takes now is a big one for him and his family.
The Gunners academy product has a Ghanaian father and continues to be monitored by the Ghana Football Association over his potential international allegiance in the future.
Sagoe Jr’s call-up by Liberia comes after a strong start to the season for Arsenal Under-21s.
He has scored three goals and contributed a further three assists in his opening seven games, with his performances seeing him nominated for the PL2 player of the month award for August.
There was an expectation that he would move in the summer, either on loan or on a permanent basis, but a deal didn’t materialise and he has now reintegrated back with the U21s set-up for the first half of the campaign, with his future due to be assessed again in January.
