Well, that didn’t take long did it?
As soon as Xavi announced he would be leaving Barcelona at the end of the season it was absolutely inevitable that reports linking Mikel Arteta with the job would emerge.
So it was no surprise to see the Catalan press stirring things up on Sunday night, with some reports suggesting that Arteta had informed his ‘entourage’ that he was planning on leaving north London at the end of the season.
This is complete rubbish, of course. But that has not stopped the speculation spreading overnight.
Arteta will address the reports at his press conference later today, but my understanding is that he is absolutely determined to see things through at Arsenal and win major honours with the club.
You better be prepared for more of this type of stuff to come from Spain until Xavi’s successor is confirmed, however.
I can’t imagine for a second this will stop, even after Arteta rubbishes the reports himself at London Colney later on today.
I give my thoughts on the situation in today’s Inside Arsenal show, which you can watch on YouTube below or on all the usual podcast platforms.
There’s also plenty of other Arsenal chat as we head towards tomorrow night’s crucial Premier League clash at Nottingham Forest.
